    Tempest Plus 23P vs. a FURY 23P

I have a Ranger 185VS with a 2010 Mercury ProXS 175hp and am currently running a Tempest Plus 23P prop on it. I am wondering if I might be able to pick up a little more speed with a FURY 23P. The tempest plus is about right as far as RPM's performance; but with tournament load and another guy in the boat, I max out at about 55mph.

I tried out a FURY 24P and sacrificed about 400 RPM's. It did however give me more lift and a couple more MPH's....

I know its a ranger "lead sled"; but I would like to get some more speed if at all possible.

    Thanks for any input.

On my rig, the Tempest Plus is the faster prop. Holeshot is better with my Fury. I am running 24P on both.

Your speed, to me, sounds about right with a partner and tourney load. I would think you should be seeing low to mid 60's by yourself, light load, half tank, etc., but I think that would be with a 24P.

I have a 175 Opti. The Pro XS should rev higher than a standard Opti like mine. I would think you shouldn't have any issues turning either prop in a 24P. Do you know your prop to pad measurement?

No, I've never measured my PTP. I will do that this evening to see what it is.

And yes, I can get low 60's when by myself with the Tempest Plus 23P. I feel like there is a tiny bit more I could get out of the motor though, because trimmed all the way out, water pressure at 13p.s.i, I will get to 5,900 / 6,000 RPM's so ill bump the trim down as to not over-rev. the motor. I really try to stay around 5,800 RPM's as my max, even though the motor is rated up to 6,000 RPM.

I am wondering if the FURY 23 might allow me to get more lift and keep my water pressure up and knock a few RPM's off at the same time to keep me between 5800 and 6000. This would give me a couple more MPH's maybe.

I might add that the FURY 24P I tried allowed me to trim the motor up all the way and it was still sucking water at 20 psi. I couldn't believe it; but I was only getting 5,400 RPM's max.

I might be splitting hairs though. My current prop is pretty close.

Do you have a jack plate on your boat? You have about 21% prop slip if your only getting 55 mph at 5800 rpm's so something is wrong either the prop to pad setting, no jack plate or the prop itself.

I've never heard of a Fury lifting better than a Tempest. My biggest gripe with Fury 3 is poor load carrying ability. I also can't believe you have more water pressure with the fury. Is the Tempest stock?

Tempest has a 5/8 bigger barrel diameter than the fury. That should translate to about 150 rpms more with the same size prop

Everything you guys are saying relates to a 150hp motor. With a 175 pro xs you should be running a 25 Tempest at 3.25” ptp and be able to run 5900 rpms @ 63-65 with a stock prop. Something doesnt make sense

    I agree, i run a similar ranger with a 150 xr6. I turn a 23 tempest to 5600rpm at 59 by myself, 57 with two guys loaded. When I had my 175efi I turned a 25 tempest to 5900 at 65-67.
