Well, did you pull it like you stole it? Some can’t manage to keep their foot out of the turbos.

You might have some other issue. I've got an 18 F150 4x4 with max tow 3.5 eco and I get better than that towing a 6,000lb travel trailer. I got 11.7mpg for a 637 mile trip and it wasn't all flat by any means.

65k on my 2.7 Lariat tows my 520l very well...my previous truck had a 3.5 and while I can notice a difference it’s slight and fuel economy is about 2mpg better...

I just filled it up today and have 260 miles til empty on the dash. I don’t think I’m in the boost all the time but it’s working harder just daily driving. Seems to have more drag such as if I tap the brake going 50mph it slows to 30 mph a lot faster than it did on stock tires. They aren’t mud tires by any means but they are an aggressive tire.
I have a 2016 2.7 with a 3 or 4" lift with 35's. I get 13-16 mpg daily driving, 11-12 mpg towing 20' stratos fish and ski unless I'm towing down expressway at 75mph then it drops to 9.5-10.5 mpg. I will say it pulls better that my 2008 5.4 F150 dramatically.

Agree. That 9.5 sounds like something is seriously wrong. My gas guzzling Tundra with a front end lift and 33 inch AT tires (both of which are on the chopping block in short order) gets 12 mpg towing my boat (15 on average otherwise, can get 17 if I drive 65 on cruise control and no headwind)...admittedly it's a slightly smaller boat, but damn!

Just towed my 20 foot Bass Cat for the first time with my wife's Navigator, has the 3.5. It has the heavy duty tow package, I was impressed with how it towed. I have towed with nothing but a 2011 F250 and a 15 F450 since 2010. Lots of power, smooth, quiet. I miss my diesel dually but the 3.5 has more than enough power to tow a bass boat.
