    Old Procraft Prop Question

I just acquired a 1982 procraft 16.5' bass boat. It has a rebuilt 150 black max with a 4" jack plate and a 3 blade 24p quick silver prop. I was just looking to see if anyone has set up one of these boats and if that's a good prop for it. I will have mph and rpm figures later this evening. Was just looking for a good starting point as it looks like p 2 p is almost even and this isn't a super light boat. Thanks

If it's an old 1750 it's not heavy just 1150 lbs. You have to check the transom for water damage because it's made of wood so are the stringers. Prop to pad should start at 3.5" under.

    It's a 1650, Not a 1750... I had a 1984, 1650 FS 115 Mariner. Blue and silver. It was only rated for a 140 HP.

Yeah its overpowered a little, I ran it today and it needs the carbs cleaned. Its bogging off the line then cleaning up towards the top end. I need to get a new rpm gauge as mine is stopping at 3500 so I cant accurately get you guys information right now. I did show 62 on gps before I let out of it, light load just me. I am a fan of 4 blade props so I may make a switch, but man this boat rides like a dream and is really nice and dry. And the transom has been replaced, along with a new floor and 2 new stringers.

Trophy Plus would be where I would start... Holeshot venting will really help your low end.

That was my thoughts as well. I would rather have holeshot and drivability. Plus I have always had less chine with a 4 blade. Would you recommend a 24p trophy?

I'd need to know what your rpms are now,... Most 150's will run a 23P depending on the motors rpm capabilities.

Unless it had the rerating kit. It was based on the USCG formula and consisted of two 1" bumpers to be screwed to the back to increase the length by 1", which changed the rating to 150 max. Mike, I guess you young kids never knew about this option.

Well I told a story, I could have sworn the prop was a 24 but its a 25p. I found out it may be an original laser prop thats cupped. I think thats too much for a 150 to turn, believe I will put it up for sell or trade.

A laser II is not a bad prop on smaller boats like yours, but not good on larger boats. But those 2.4 motors liked to turn more RPMs, and although can run good with a trophy, they struggle and lose speed with a big prop like a Bravo II. Odd pitch Trophy's are better than even pitch ones. Try to find a 23" Trophy, and if you are spinning it more than 6200 RPM, have some cupping added..

My boat is actually 16'8" if you count the bumpers :)
