I would think you would want at least a 3 1/2” drop with that truck...if it’s factory height.

I think you will find that the type of cab and bed length may make a bigger difference than the type of boat you are towing. I have a RAM 1500 Limited 4X4 Crew Cab short bed with 20" wheels. A 2" drop is right for me.

Top of the trailer ball should be in the 19-21in range on flat ground.

I think mine is a two inch drop. I have slightly oversized tires too and it's just fine. I'm not a big fan of having my trailer hitch really low either though.

Level you trailer, then back your truck up to the trailer tongue and measure the distance from the bottom of your hitch receiver to the bottom of the trailer tongue.

A lot of variables... Which Ram 1500, 2500, 3500???... What size are your trailer tires, 14 or 15 inch??? On my Ram 1500 4x4 with 20 inch tire I use a B&W hitch and it's set at it highest setting. Trailer sit level while towing... As mentioned above find a flat parking lot and level trailer, the make some measurements... Dan

I use a 5 inch with my 09 1/2 ton 4x4 with 20's. Each truck and suspension package as well as the trailer geometry will make a difference. Get the trailer level and measure. Set the hitch a little higher because it will drop some with the weight.

Only way to know for sure is to measure. You want the trailer to tow level. So put the trailer on level ground, use trailer jack to level the trailer, measure distance to the ground. Then purchase whatever size drop hitch gets you closest to the level.

My 2017 Ram 2500 4x4 w/ 35” tires (which are barely bigger than stock) with only a leveling kit on the front takes approx 6” of drop to get my trailer flat for towing.
