    Can't pump gas in tank...

I have an 1988 skeeter starfire that I purchased not too long ago. The boat is in great condition and it runs great. The one problem I'm having is trying to pump gas into my gas tank. Gas pump handle wants to shut off right away because the gas is backing up too quick. Takes me FOREVER if I want to pump gas into my 42 gallon tank. I just have to barely squeeze the handle so the gas does back up to quick. Any ideas? Is it getting air locked?

Check for an anti-spitback valve like this on your filler tube. It has an internal flapper valve with a light spring load. That spring may be rusted causing the flapper to restrict the fuel flow.
The other cause could be a restricted vent line. I don’t know how your boat is set up but it should be easy to identify.

Ok I will take a closer look. From what I did see it looks like there is an air vent line (about 3/4") back out to this little chrome vent cap right next to where I pump the gas in.

On mine I have to hold the fuel nozzle upside down.

Some folks find that driving the wheels onto a small length of board on one side of the trailer will help. It seems that the side nearest the fill cap is the best.

Interesting, never heard of those two things before. I will definitely have to try those things.

Look at the vent line, make sure it is straight no dips or sags, if it's not straight fuel will collect in the low spots and not vent properly.

I'll try holding the nozzle upside down first. Seems like the first thing that is easiest to try.

I have had to do this very thing to get gas into my old skeeter wrangler back in the day.

I put one of these on the top of the tank. Fixed the problem.

this may sound stupid but, are you adding oil to the tank and then pumping gas immediately afterward?? If so , the oil takes a long time to get down and goes into the vent line and you wont be able to get fuel in, I always add a little to the tank because my opti has 450 hrs on it and a little xtra lube cant hurt, happened to me 1 time now I put the oil in after the fuel.....hope it helps

Lots of boats have these same fueling issues. Adding a Perko valve solved mine on a Ranger.

It's actually oil injected so I don't mix.

Variations on the same idea. If you tried to pour in stabilizer without using a funnel it could go into the vent tube and cause the problem. Same with the gas backing up too far and then going down the tube.

In addition to the other suggestions you can try blowing out the vent tube with compressed air.

I had the same problem on my cat and the basscat people sent me a plastic nozzle that went in the opening where the gas nozzle goes. This helped a great deal and allowed me to increase the amount of gas going into the tank. Turning the nozzle different directions will help also.

Stick it in following the shape/direction of the intake pipe. Sideways, upside down what ever helps.
