Another option is the EZ Battery Check system. http://ezbatterycheck.com/shop/

You can do the same thing with AGM's and a lot cheaper than Lithium's. I have always checked the water level in my acid batteries and added some water over a period of time. I have buddies that thought they had maintenance free batteries and let the water level go below the plates and ruined their batteries.

Go with AGM batteries and never worry again. My Optima cranking battery is 5 years old and shows no sign of slowing down, and my Cabela AGM TM batteries still run all day and show no signs of weakening.

Okay, for AGM batteries, who has decent prices?
How do they compare in price to a lead acid? Example - a 27 series lead acid vs a 27 series AGM.
How do the lifespans compare? Is it worth it to get an AGM, in the long run?
One brand over another? Or are they made by the same company?

I'm asking, as I hope to soon be in the market for new trolling motor batteries.

Batteries plus has them, Cabela's has them. Cost is more but I changed wet cells out every two years, my AGM's are going on 5 years and no sign of slowing down. Just make sure your charger is rated for AGM batteries. If not add that to the initial expense. They charge differently than lead acid batteries.

Buy a cheap funnel and put a piece of clear soft flexible 1/2” tubing on it about 2’ long . That is how I’ve been keeping my battery’s topped off for years cost less than 10$ .

I used to use a turkey injector syringe. No mess, exact watering level.

I just did it Saturday with a $1 Turkey baster from Publix. No need to spend money on something like that.

I can't measure, much less fill the cells in my boat, without removing them. I bought the press-in EZ battery check (yellow ones) early this season. The floats hang up sometimes (have to tap on the battery as you're filling). In uses, they see to be quite accurate. Peace of mind brothers.

AGM batteries. Problem solved. Hit a big wake a couple years back. Heard a loud “thunk” in the bilge area, and when I checked everything looked OK. Just plain didn’t notice my start battery being flipped. My start battery ended up on it’s side, and I didn’t notice for literally weeks. Flipped it back upright, installed a SS ratcheting strap, and went fishing.
