Question New Truck Question/ Chevy Silverado-GMC Sierra

I’ll be purchasing a new truck coming up later this year. Currently in. GMC Sierra 1500 Texas edition.
Great truck. Been satisfied completely. Then comes along this new tailgate design on them that if you accidentally let down wrong, your hitch will ding the stinkin thing. So I was fully bound and determined it was s deal breaker because I never take my hitch out and knew I’d get a ding...

So I instead, tell myself I’m going to switch over to the Chevy Silverado RST with custom accessories to make it just like I want. I’m convinced this is my next truck....

Buddy of mine calls me and said to me that I better go check that new Chevy out cause he looked st one today, and knowing me said I’d hate the tailgate! I said you got to be kidding me, what’s wrong with it as they don’t have that fancy flawed designed tailgate on them to get a ding. He said nope, they don’t. But when you go look at one shut it and tell me what you think. He said they are hollow sounding and extremely cheap. Said there’s barely any metal and solidness to them and he knows our current trucks aren’t that way.

What the crap? Any of y’all found this to be the case? This could be a deal breaker and perhaps I eat crow on buying another GMC now with that ridiculous tailgate that at least is heavy duty and not cheaply built?!?!

Guess I’ll go see what he’s talking about and decide whether to eat crow!

I have a 2018 with a plain old tailgate and I have no idea what he’s referring to. My guess is if they look hard enough, some people will always find and excuse to complain.

Nope, your truck is good and should have a solid tailgate. My understanding is that it’s the ‘19’s and 20’s that they have cheapened up.

    yes you can

op can also actually try that new gmc pro gate and worry less about removing the hitch. it's actually nice. 8 months of having one, that stupid new gate is more handy than people think it is.

You can not get a standard tailgate on the SLT, AT4, or Denali. The SLT is what I would be choosing.

I do not deny it’s handy. But I also don’t deny that “I” would most likely end up with a ding in the tail gate.

The one I looked at had a power tail gate. Even the non powered ones have that easy-open/close feature which I suppose, could make one think it is lightweight or lighter than one someone is used to slamming open and shut on an older pickup. This is much Ado about nothing in my opinion

You can order a standard tailgate up thru the AT4 model at no extra cost.

I have a 19 RST and have had a good amount of weight on it with no issues. The assist is what makes it so light but man it makes a nice difference. Have had zero issues also mine came with a lift, auto steps, and fuel rims, plus custom interior red accents in the seats to match the truck. Having issues posting pictures at the moment but will get one loaded soon

You can delete the pro tailgate when ordering. Anything hinged is alloy. Doors, hood and tailgate.

I have a 19 Silverado and yes the tailgate is very lightweight, but it doesn't feel weak by any means.
