    New 2019 AT4 Sierra w/ 6.2

Love the truck just hit 10k mileage. Close to another oil change but not quite. As driving yesterday warning came on low on oil add oil. Ran into dealership (nothing registered on the dipstick). Ended up being 2.3 quarts low. Going to dealer Thursday and not leaking anywhere. WTF??

I love gm but every truck I have owned since the chevy 350 used oil. That's including my 2019 gmc sierra with 5.3

What's the capacity on the 6.2? Love the looks of that AT4 by the way...

8 quarts I think. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 5.3 and 6.2 use same amount of oil. It was 8.5 quarts but they changed it to 8.0 in a tsb for some reason.

Oil consumption is very reason I switched from GM after 25 years and 6 trucks trucks. When they tried to tell me 3 quarts between changes was "normal" when any of my former trucks (with 175k by the time I traded them off) wouldn't burn a pint between changes. Went round and round about this with the dealer. I was literally driving around in a truck with 40k miles (under warrantee), and was carrying a gallon jug of oil behind the seat to top it off at every fill up.... Crazy to me. Wide and known issue for GM since about 08, and there are all kinds of service bulletins and stuff on it...

0/20. Mine doesn’t use any oil. Yet.

Im in the same boat. Gm rebuilt my 2007 due to oil burning. Then I bought a 2014 and it started burning oil as well. My Son’s 2014 GMC 5.3 is burning even more oil. I traded mine in for a Tundra and haven’t looked back.

0/20 weight oil used, that’s thin oil even with our “supreme” technology these days. One of the boat pullers on our trip over labor day went through a quart in 300miles..... 2015 GMC pulling a 16’ Alumacraft.....not bashing, I’d just be a little frustrated when he has 50k miles on it.

Had a ‘13 Sierra and a ‘13 Tahoe. Both 5.3. Never burnt any oil. Guess I had two unicorns

Loomis88, looking at the same truck but maybe wait and get the diesel. What sort of mpg are you getting with the 6.2 towing and not towing. Do you run the premium gas and do you have the 24 gal tank. I think the truck is sharp looking but in the past when I drove a Chevy/gmc same issue with the consumption of oil.

My cousin just got a new 5.0 liter in his new F150 due to oil consumption. Oil light came on and nothing was showing on the dipstick. Ford dealer told him they have seen this problem showing up quite a bit. I’m wondering if it is more of a problem with thin oil rather than an engine problem? I think 0/20 is too damn thin regardless of engine manufacturer.

The real question is who did the last oil change and was it topped off then? Or, did some tech put 6.5 quarts in and never check to see if it was full? I really can’t see that specific 6.2 burning oil...those issues have been taken care of for some time now!

I hope someone simply messed up at the last oil and this isn’t a real issue! Wow 0-20 just doesn’t sound like truck oil to me but they know much more than I do! I can’t stand using 5W20 in my F150 in the Florida weather.

Most likely what happened. The 2015 and newer appear to not have the oil consumption problem.

Google "chevy afm oil consumption" and you'll find all kinds of info on Chevy oil burning, mostly traced back to the afm cylinder deactivation. Granted, not all engines develop this issue, but plenty have, including my 2010 Silverado. Just had to replace the lifters in it this past spring. Burned a quart every couple thousand miles before I worked on it. I installed an AFM deactivation module after the repair and oil consumption is negligible now.

need to change every 5-6k miles and turn off afm if possible. that motor has afm on all 8 cylinders also I believe. now called DFM dynamic fuel management and can go down to 1 cylinder if it desires

I've had a 1995 2500, 2003 2500, 2011 2500, 2018 2500 all with the 6.0 gas engine and have never had an oil issue or any other issue for that matter. I usually trade them in at aroud 150-160K miles.

My F250 6.7 has never used a drop of oil between 5,000 mile changes , no brag just saying . It would be very irritating to have to add oil to a $50.000 chevy .

you have to run it wide open throttle for an hour and then change the oil, you'll be all good.
