What do yall use for a walking bait? Larger ones like a Vixen, gunfish etc. Right now I'm using a 7'3 H rod with straight braid and I feel like im missing something

I have a few:
G loomis MBR843 GLX
Point Blank PB701MHF (custom)
Dobyns 705CB Glass
All on 19lb Defier (green box)
I’ve been using an Alx toadface with good success
My two cents , either going away from the braid on your heavy rod and switch to mono, or going to a rod with some more give if you want to stay with the braid would make things feel better since you said you felt like you were missing something. Personally I like the benefits of the braid in this technique. I can get more distance with it and a MUCH better Hookset out at the end of a long cast due to the lack of stretch. Also the ability to work the bait with ease vs the mono. The short mono leader I run is more so the braid doesn't foul the front treble when I'm walking it hard rather than for reduced visibility.

Keep the braid, switch to a softer rod. Medium or lighter MH. Straight braid on a heavy rod is a recipe for lost fish with treble hooks.

For target casting I used a Dobyns 685CB with 40lb braid tied to a 20lb Big Game leader. For distance, I use a Dobyns 734C, same lines.
white gambler has a good point on the toadface rod i run mono instead of braid for the large walking baits.
I use 7'2 MF Shimano Zodias with braid to leader. works great for bigger walking baits. If length is an issue, they also make that rod in a 6'10 in both the Expride and Zodias which is awesome as well.
Megabass X7 EMTF with an SV103xs and steez HLC spool
Im throwing showerblows and spook type baits with it .. best topwater setup for big baits that I've had and it doubles as a chatter bait set up.. Im not using ANY braid..
I use an older 7’6” medium heavy veritas cranking rod. I use 30lb braid. I like the soft tip it has with the braid. Still plenty of backbone though to make it easy to cast.
I've settled in on a 7'1" MH 13 fishing Omen. I love the balance with the shorter rod and the full cork grip. It makes walking the bait effortless. I throw sammys, vixens, knickknockers, and showerblows with it. I use 40# Smackdown and can still bomb the lure with a shorter rod.
2016 Ranger RT188, Yamaha 115 sho, dual console, 80# Ultrex, hotfoot, networked HB Solix 10 & Helix 9, Mega 360. Powertech NRS3 18p, Atlas 4" jack plate.
I use a 7’ mh composite rod (Cabelas ZX Cranking). I use #40 braid with a 12” leader of #17 mono. Rarely lose a fish with this setup. Also I don’t really “set the hook” when I get bit. I just sweep the rod to the side and keep reeling. Let the braid and the sharp hooks do their thing, and the parabolic rod keep them pinned
Dobyns 706CB cranking rod with braid. If more than 3/4oz I like the 735 glass.

Been using the 7'3" medium heavy hammer rods jak series. It is an awesome rod for topwaters like walking baits. Been using 15lb tatsu as well. Did it at a pond a few years ago and I really like it for the topwaters I throw. I throw the vixens and the 6th Sense Dogmas. It will kill the action of regular spook or Sammy but with baits more rear waited it's perfect for me.
I use a discontinued Falcon Cara . 6' medium with a 5.1:1 curado reel. I'm not the tallest guy and this setup is the perfect cadence for me. When the topwater bite goes away I switch this rod to a jerkbait.
Tatula Elite 7’3 MH/F w/ 50lb braid
the rod is considered fast, but bends deep into the blank and that allows for hooks on long casts without ripping the lure from the fish.
Glx 844 mbr with 40-50lb braid and short mono leader.
