Noob Livewell Control Question

I just bought a 2017 FX20 LE and I'm trying to figure out how to work the livewell. The switch has auto, recirculation, and empty. My problem is that the livewells are filling with water when I'm trolling. I keep the switch on empty, is that correct?

Do you have an Open/Close lever by the ignition switch? In the closed position, no water will enter the livewell.

I have push buttons that say on or auto and they seem to be all off.

There is a manual valve that controls the drain. It will back flow water if it is open. Auto fill is on a timer, and manual fills continuously. Same goes for the aerator. Auto aerates on a timer and manual is continuous. When you hit the water close valves to hold livewell water. Open once you load boat back up. Wait till you find out about pump out!
