Once the rod gets wet it usually only takes a few times in and out of the rod locker before it's game over.

Deduct some life span for rod twist, and hope you don't have to replace the eye on the tip.

I wonder if it hurts your boat to get wet...... OMG
What happens when my rod gets too wet? She usually ends up pregnant. Thats what kind of luck i got. Lol
Here is the aforementioned Paul Elias (The King of Kneeling & Reeling (evidently) and an article but as was mentioned "He may have a rod sponsor" so take that into account.

Kneeling and reeling is perfect anytime the bass can be found on underwater structure that's between 16 and 21 feet deep. Elias catches the bulk of his crankbait bass on ledges, humps and points. Tackle: Elias opts for a Quantum Q750 baitcasting reel with a 5:1 gear ratio spooled with 12-pound-test Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon line. He mounts the reel on his Quantum Signature Series 7-foot, 11-inch cranking rod (presently in the prototype stage). He says the medium gear ratio helps him get maximum depth out of his lures without much fatigue. The fluorocarbon line gives him an additional foot or so of depth and has little stretch. The rod is designed for big, deep-diving crankbaits and is long enough to give him great casting distance as well as the option of submerging as much as 7 feet of it (all the way up to the reel) to get extra depth.
Are You fishing in 16' of water?
What would ALX do?
Assuming the post is serious...I don't think it matters at all. I think getting combos wet does necessitate paying closer attention to REEL maintenance than you otherwise might, though.

When you “reely” think about it, it’s a valid question. Submerging a rod many times over the course of a day, when kneeling & reeling. I think graphite & fiberglass are water resistant, don’t think a cane pole would like it too much. I have not seen any issues from any of my rods and I’ve been fairly tough on my frog rod, that thing takes a beating and it’s been submerged in an all day down pour a few times.
What happens when you get your rod wet? ..... sometimes you end up with a little johnny.
Mine shrinks!

Just shake it dry and put it away, nothing to it.
I laughed for 10 minutes reading this post
On the serious side, pretty sure the sun/UV will do more longterm damage to your (fishing) rods than rain will.
I don't think much happens to them at all unless you were to leave submerged. I have rods 10-15 years old that have been in and out of water and they are still my most sensitive rods.
sheesh. And to think I was only worried about that reel I submerged the other day. (knocked one off the deck and had to go in up to my shoulder to catch it on its way down - have 3 identical setups, and stupidly unrigged them all before setting it aside for maintenance. Relubed all 3 just to be safe.)
