1983 Johnson impeller.

I bought this boat a couple weeks ago. The guy I got it from replaced lower unit He also did impeller. From a shop that dont deal with evinrude/johnson. Seems that the water ain't shooting out enough from what i heard from a local outboard shop told me if the motor/water gets hot less then 5/10 mins while running it's over heating. Before i go a head an pull the lower unit an replace the impeller. Is there anything else that can cause it to be running hot? Thanks so much.
