    2012 300 verado and 15hp pro kicker

    Hi,

I'm looking for info on how to wire the 15hp pro kicker and an isolator for the verado power steering. I have this kit that mercury dealer sold me KICKER P/S BASE 8M0149838. instruction say a isolator is recommended but it did not come with this kit.

Do you have 4 batteries (1 starting and 3 for the trolling motor) or 5 (1 starting, 1 house and 3 for the trolling motor)? If you have a house battery, Mercury has a published wiring diagram for this with the part number (just Google it).

if you only have 4 batteries, I’m not sure. Check my separate thread on this. I’m currently in this situation. There’s only room for 4 batteries on the new 2020 Triton 216 Fishunter and they don’t offer a 5-battery upgrade option. The boat showed up with the kicker and the Verado’s power steering wired to the 3rd trolling motor battery. Triton acknowledged that this was a mistake and they were supposed to be connected to the starting battery. However, they have not been responding to my dealer’s requests for further detail/instruction. It’s not straightforward as to how the isolator kit is supposed to be wired in a 4-battery configuration. Mercury only has published instructions for this kit in a 5-battery configuration (starting battery, house battery, trolling motor batteries).

Let us know how you make out.

The older kits included the Isolator.... and supersede to 8M0149837.

Do the instructions not specify a specific Isolator?

If it helps at all, the instructions for kit 8M0149837 you mention above do not specify a specific isolator. Not sure about the instructions for kit 8M0149838 that the OP has.

I have 5 batteries on my 621. Where do I find this wiring diagram, I looked online and couldn't find anything referencing this.

For the Isolator I ordered Part# 8M6005583 which should work. I found this part number part of an older kit.

PM me your email address and I’ll send you the diagram and instructions. Mercury emailed them to me.

Suspect that isolator is not adequate given the Amperage rating of the Verado's Alternator.

I would recommend 8M6006077 (which can handle 140 amps, more than the output of a Verado Alternator).

The Isolator I purchased was from the superseded kit. I guess that won't work.

I wonder if this one would work since mercury wants $300 plus dollars. <EDIT- See Announcements>
