    Eliminate Prop Rattle/Chatter

Is there a Flo-torq 4 hub kit for a Yamaha 200 SHO motor, (instead of the Flo-torq 2, part#8M0075402)? I'm trying to get rid of "prop rattle when I idle in gear. Thanks

I had the chatter at very low idle with four blades. My boat is 18’ basscat with a 150 opti.
The flo torq IV took 90% of the chatter away. Mine would make the most chatter at idle speed.

Thanks for reply...I'm trying to find out if there's a Flo-torq-IV kit for Yamaha SHO 200....hoping that might work for me too. I never had chatter with 3-blade but do now with new 4-blade.

You could try running the forward cone bushing on it part #856163Q1. Mercury says to run them on heavy props to keep them from wobbling on the shaft and it might stop you chatter. The flo torq IV is made different than the II. When you use the bushing the torq goes from 55 lbs up to 100 lbs.

Yes, the Flo-torq II i have now has that bushing and I'm torqued to 100lbs....lots of chatter (but only when idling in gear). My 3 blade prop has a Yamaha pressed-in hub...no chatter. I think the Flo-torq IV is supposed to behave more like a rubber hub...as long as I can find one for Yamaha SHO.

Different outboards, but similar situation. 75 4-stroke with 17P X7 would chatter with a II. Switched to a III and it's gone.

Can't seem to find the one for the 250 sho. All I can find is the RBX-203. On the RBX 203X says unavailable. Seems the203 & the 203X are different kits

If you can find one they work , guessing similar to the Flo torq 4 . I used one for my fury 4 prop on etec no more clunk or ratlle.

Hey Bob, If you happen to find a 203X, let me know. Find plenty of the 203 but not the 203X. The 203 goes up to 300hp but doesn't list the SHO. The 203X is the only one listed for the SHO. I don't have any problems with mine "YET", but who knows.

Ok, I'll let you know what I find. I'm pretty sure the newer style Flo-torq IV I need is part#835271Q09.

That should be the right number, McQ. That uses the "double-jointed" Merc plastic sleeve, so it allows for some twisting motion within the hub to act as a rotational shock absorber.

As Marko from Trapoja said, "Goo-luck." hehehehehee

835271Q09 is a flo torq III hub kit for Yamaha four strokes but it looks like the old lower unit not the SHO https://www.mertenmarine.com/Flo-Tor...-Kit-835271Q09

Ya, that's why I haven't ordered one yet. Some sites show it as a flo-torq III and others as a IV, and none of them mention for use on SHO motor (is it different than regular 4 stroke?). My local dealer didn't know...

You know, all of this really confuses me. Mine is this:

    Flo-Torq II hub kit.jpg

It says it is for a 250 SHO & I don't have any problems with it but everyone seems to be saying it is wrong.
Am I using the wrong hub kit??????????

That's the correct one for a SHO with the 2 piece trust washer (earlier SHO's used a 1 piece thrust washer). The 8M0075402 kit requires the original SHO thrust washer and then the spacer that comes with the kit, plus the other parts. I'm pretty sure that the SHO's that have a 1-piece thrust washer use Flo-torq kit #.835271Q09. Yes, it's confusing because at some point/model year Yamaha SHO's changed from a 1-piece to 2-piece thrust washer because of problems with it.
