    Electric start

I have an 89 Mercury 25hp(oc280511) that didn’t come with electric start. Can electric start be installed on it? If so, is there a kit for it from Mercury?

It could be installed but you would really have to find a donor-engine (conversion kits are only available for current, and recent production models).

<EDIT- It does appear that 90983A5 can be used for this engine serial number. A3 is an old/outdated part number.>

Toona that reads like a foreign language on my phone. Will it fit an 89 year model? If I’m reading it right it won’t fit but I’m just a caveman and confused. Thanks

Mercury doesn't use "model years" they use serial numbers (why serial numbers are required when posting) so need to read the "Related Fitment" notes:

If your engine was produced in USA then no as description states it fits USA produced 25hp with serial number range of 0G044027 - 0G067299.

If your engine was produced in Belgium, then yes, as description states it fits Belgium produced 25hp with serial number range of 9807909 - 0P016999.

Ok. So both the A5 and A3 will work but the A3 is an old part number. Am I understanding that correctly, or is just the A3 that will work? Thanks for the help everyone.
