    Question aluminum boat rebuild questions

Working on my starcraft boat. I removed the wood transom pad that the older starcraft had. It was bare aluminum underneath. Sanded cleaned and spray rustoleum self etching primer, light coats.

4 days later I went to clean with acetone and the etch primer is coming off. Is this normal?? Boat is in garage.

Also there are scratches that are deep, can I get away with filler primer? Or will I need to use marinetex or bondo etc?

yes, acetone will take down primer.
For the scratches - those are too deep for filler primer. In my experience - bondo can be sketchy on Aluminum. I would use marinetex but that stuff is not fun to sand and smooth.

Thank you for the help. I ended up using marinetex and thinned it per directions to smooth it out.
