    Eastern Kansas Lakes

I’m looking to take a fun fishing trip out East the first weekend of October. I was thinking about going to either Melvern or Wolf Creek. What would everyone recommend? I’m also open to trying other lakes.

    Thanks

Don't know about Melvern, Wolf Creek has been tough. Look at Bone Creek, Big Hill, Hillsdale and some of the county/state lakes.

Depends on what you are wanting to catch. The smallmouth at Melvern are starting to get active, but they are not the size of the ones you catch at Wilson. Bonecreek is a great lake, but there is gravel to get to it. It and big hill are tough to navigate, if you have never been there before. Wilson County State lake has a good population of bass.

If it were me...I'd be thinking Bone Creek, Big Hill and maybe Mined Land.

Big Hill and Bone Creek. You're just fun fishing so take your time and you can idle anywhere. Big largemouth in both lakes I would say probably the best largemouth fishing in the state.

Actually, I'm thinking about a similar trip in about a month.

Three days fishing between Big Hill and Bone Creek.

Anyone try Banner Creek in Holton? I have read they are doing a lot of habitat work there.

Banner creek has held up well considering all the pressure it gets. Pony creek another good one

Went one Saturday this year. Looked like a cross between a chinese fire drill and a Nascar race with all the boats out there. Back home in less than two hours. Small lakes took a pounding this year.
