USA VA and the high hurdles

We all know the cost of certain meds is crazy. Both myself and a close buddy got Rx scripts for Eliquis. This is a relatively new medication prescribed for DVT/PE issues. In other words, blood clots in the arteries of the legs and/or lungs. Blood clots are a very serious threat to life and can kill or disable a person quickly. My own introduction was a wake up call at 1:00am where I was struggling to breathe and was rushed to the hospital by local EMT's. The diagnosis was a blood clot in a lung.

Eliquis, if you have insurance can run well over $400 for a 30 day supply. The VA will tell you to have your Dr send the prescription along with documentation that it is required for your condition and they will submit your request to a committee. Have any of you had any luck with this cluster/committee?

The VA drug formulary is so antiquated it's sickening. At my last visit I asked the Dr. about it and she said it really hinders the care they can give.
