if you had the option between the two, what would be the better jon to have, a center console or a side console fishing boat? and why?

At my age side, because center leaves little room to get by either side and is an accident waiting on me to happen. I really consider a a "Jon" a tiller steer.

May I offer another suggestion? How about a tiller? It frees up a lot of space in a small boat.

Salt water in bay, sound or inlet I would go with center console. Fresh water river, lakes and ponds I would go with side console. It would also depend on the size of the jon boat.

Without knowing above mentioned information, would have to say center as you can use it for anything if set up correctly

If wider (72" bottom) center, narrower side console.

If I have a console, it'll be side. On a tippy jon, I'd rather walk down the middle and have the rods angled off the side.
