My wife and I just got back into fishing and pretty much have to start over with our gear. When it comes to line what is everybody's opinion?

I would highly recommend braid for at least frogs. You may get frustrated trying to fish a frog with any other kind of line. The other baits If your wanting to keep it simple , you can use mono and be fine.
50# or 65# braid for frog and heavy cover tx rig.
15# or 20# braid with fluoro leader for dropshot.
A quality 12-15 lb co-polymer for everything else.

I would also recommend 50 pound braid for the frog and also for flipping. All my other rigs get 8, 10, 12, or 15 pound Izorline Platinum. It's a co-polymer line that has little stretch and high abrasion resistance. You can buy it at Tackle Warehouse and higher end tackle shops..
"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments
For me personally:
Texas Rig: ~30-40 lb braid to 10-12 ft 16 lb fluoro leader
Top Water: ~30 lb braid (short 20 lb mono leader if catching line on walking bait)
Frogs: 50lb braid
Crankbaits: 12 lb fluoro
Spinnnerbaits: ~40 lb braid to 10-12 ft 16 lb fluoro leader (noise of braid sawing on vegetation, dock posts and pike teeth) or straight 16 lb fluoro
Dropshot: 0.15 mm diameter braid, usually rated at 10lb, to ~15 ft 7 lb fluoro leader
I'm using Sniper as my fluoro in all of the above. Have an absolute ton of confidence in it. I have gone to spooling up Shooter on "dragging" type things like a football jig, wobble head, Carolina rig, etc....those all get 18 lb. That stuff is a little springy, but my oh my is it tough.
I'm flipping with 50 lb braid to a 25 lb Hitena BassRaptor leader - I'm quickly becoming a fan of Hitena fluoro!

Keep it simple to start and use 15 lb Izorline for everything but frogs and dropshot. 50#Braid for frogs and 6 lb Izorline for the dropshot.
Texas rig: I use fluorocarbon 99% of the time. Anywhere from 12 - 20# test, depending on the cover. The other 1% of the time, 60# braid. And that's only because the cover pretty much dictates the use of braid.
Topwater: Regular old nylon mono filament. Anywhere from 10 - 15# test. Usually Berkley Big Game, but I'm becoming a fan of Sunline Super Natural.
Frogs: 60# braid.
Crankbaits: Fluorocarbon. Anywhere from 10 - 20#. It depends on what kind of depth I need to achieve, or what kind of cover I'm fishing.
Spinnerbaits: Could be fluorocarbon, could be regular nylon mono. It all depends on how deep I'll be running the bait. 4' or less, regular nylon mono. 4' or deeper, fluorocarbon. 15# test regardless of type of line.
Dropshot: Fluorocarbon. Usually #8 test, but sometimes 10.
As far as fluorocarbon line goes, I only use Seaguar Tatsu. Expensive, but worth every penny, and then some. And then some more. For the regular nylon mono's, mostly Berkley Big Game. But Sunline Super Natural is some really good stuff. And for braid, good ole Power Pro.
I went to 20-30 pound braid for everything. I don’t fish clear water so I don’t use leaders.
Mono will work for everything but i'm sure other types of line may be better in some techniques.
This is the most comprehensive guide I’ve seen to match types of lines to lure type. Line type and recommended test.
Very good place to start.

I throw 15lb tatsu on everything expect frogs. Even on topwaters. It will kill the action on alot of topwaters but I only throw three different baits and on them I catch the fire out of em with 15lb tatsu.
trilene xl mono for all around but I would never throw a frog on anything less than 65 lb braid .broke off with 50 to many times
Texas Rig:..........15#-17# fluorocarbon
Top Water:.........12# mono (poppers) 14# (walking baits / buzzbaits)
Frogs:................50# braid
Crankbaits:.........12# mono
Spinnnerbaits:.....15#-17# fluorocarbon
Dropshot:...........10# fluorocarbon
This is just what I use...
Texas Rig: 17-20 lb fluoro (I fish a lot of cover)
Top Water: 17 lb copolymer
Frogs: 50-65 lb braid
Crankbaits: 15 lb fluoro
Spinnnerbaits: 17 lb fluoro
Dropshot: 20 lb braid to a 12 foot long 8 lb fluoro leader

I keep it simple, p line copolymer 15# for worms and spinnerbaits. Drop down to12# for cranks and smaller stuff.
