    Question 83 Mariner

Thinking of purchasing an 83 Mariner 150 to repower a boat I bought that didn’t have a motor. Looks to be in great shape and the price is right. Any thoughts on this motor or anything I should look out for when I go to check it out?

The price needs to be right-right. I think the '83 was still a first gen block having the head bolt bosses on the sides of the cylinders. If it lets go, it is not worth a rebuild. At a minimum do a compression check if possible and check the lower unit for water intrusion. If running good, it is a very basic carbureted, dependable, easy to maintain & work on engine
