    Question Echomap ultras difference?

Between the 10" and 12" is there anything else different besides 2" of screen and around a grand in price? Is 2" of screen $1000.

Yes but $1k for 2 inches? Really? I'd think Garmin could do better than that. I'm going to get one someday don't get me wrong just cannot see 2 inches of screen being that much in cost difference even from different suppliers.

I've had the 93sv+ with a 9" screen, I upgraded to a Ultra 1222 with a 12" screen .Paid about $800 for the 9 inch, around $2100 for the 12 so about $1300 for 3". Was it worth it? For me the answer is a definite YES!!! As stated above buy the biggest screen you can afford, you won't ever regret having a bigger screen.

I never could understand why these units jump in price so much from 10 to 12”. $1000 jump is a lot for 2” of screen.

I played with my buddy 1242 last week and I can say that 2 inches is a mile on screen info ,I was blown away by how much more detail and fish I could see.

I've gotten enough of "the look" from the wife on what we need for this boat. I can see it now in my head just thinking about convincing her we need the 12". That will be likely February when we make a move on one of the two. Want the Force too plus lithium batteries. It's adding up fast. Want a bigger boat too and something better than my Pilot to pull it with.

If anyone can save and wait to get a 12 over the 9 it’s well worth the wait.I totally understand that not all of us can buy the biggest and a 9 will work fine but if you can save a few more pennies it’s well worth it .Heck a 8616 is the ultimate ,but no way Iam spending that much ,but some will .

Come February I can get a 12" it's the hell I'd catch for buying it. Good thing is if we upgrade boats I'll move the good stuff over to it.

Adding 2" to the diagonal of a 4:3 aspect ratio screen, like going from 10" to 12" diagonal, gives you a 44% increase in size. Compare both in a store if you can. That 2" makes a lot more diff than you think.. IMO

I think you are off some on the % increase by assuming the 10 and 12 in screens actually measure that. The 8610 is actually a bit larger than 10", while the 8612 is a bit under 12" making it come out like 24% larger, but you are certainly correct that an increase in the diagonal can make a huge difference. The 8616 has like 2.25 times the screen space of the 8610.

My math is spot on as I specified a 4:3 aspect ratio with 10 or 12 inch diagonal as an example, not as actual numbers from the Ultras. Do the math.

Right. No problem with the math or with how 10 and 12 inch screens on Ultras were/are compared. On the Ultras both the 10 and 12 inch screens are just a bit more than the stated size. My point was that the size of the screens don't match the math on 86xx units. Thats all.
