Motor Guide Pro Rack and Pinion?

Is there a proper set-up or guide to where the cable rack and pinion align for proper rotation.
The cable on mine has been replaced. when the motor is put in the stored position; the shaft will not turn enough in one direction for the motor to lay flat. Also; the rack is hitting the housing cover in the one direction. I know the position of the rack to pinion can be changed to allow for this. I just need to know if there is a certain guide line for setting the rack to the pinion in place? Or just move it till the unit will turn and lay flat? Thanks
