    Evinrude 10 year

Hey all, so I have a blown motor and I am looking to repower. I am torn between Yamaha and the G2. I’ve had to G1s the first was bullet proof and the second well... we won’t get into it. But I absolutely loved them... when they were running. I will say evinrude never hesitated to fix any problems. It would be an easy decision if evinrude was offering the 10 year. But without that I am leaning towards Yamaha. Any one have an idea on what will be offered this fall? Or opinions on the motors?

    thanks

Sit tight, the G2 10 year will come back. Made my decision in April 2018 based on the warranty. The G2 will blow your face out like J. Geils Band sang about.

No way I would put a 2 stroke on a boat these days. But if I had rude controls already and they offered the ten year warranty and if I got a great deal I would run one.

Go with the one with the most reputable dealer service near you. I would love to own a new G2 personally but that's just me.

Love the G2. The 10-year warranty helps too.

I love my G2. I could have gotten a Mercury which is a fine motor but I love the looks and performance of it. I also got a 10 year warranty.

Why wouldn't you run a 2 stroke? What kool aid did you drink that made you think otherwise?

Repowered to the Mercury 4.6L V8 from a 2 stroke Opti. 100 hour simple oil change interval and no more expensive oil to add. Same engine weight as the opti and I got rid of the oil tank/weight. Been running it over a year now and will never go back to a 2 stroke.

Have had good luck with my E-Tec and would go with a 2 stroke with out question.

    My G2 uses so little oil that I forget it’s a 2-stroke.

Right now Evinrude is wrapping up their Summer savings promo which is a rebate and 5 years of warranty on the motor. I'm sure that the 10 year promotion will come back sometime in the very near future and they'll probably offer the "free" rigging option with it as well. The G2 motors are very impressive and all of the people I know that switched from the Pro XS 2 stroke to the G2 absolutely love them. They are all telling me that the fuel and oil consumption is much better than the Pro XS. As far as worries about 2 stroke versus 4 stroke, the G2 is actually the cleanest motor emission wise on the market of the big 3. The only thing that hurts switching to a G2 from another brand is the overall cost of the controls and wiring harness. If you already have an Evinrude/Johnson motor, then the adapter to make it run isn't a huge deal.

In the Evinrude section on this site, it was stated that the 10 year promotion would probably not return in the spring.

I had a 2017 225 G2 and recently bought a Mercury 4 stroke. The G2 is head and shoulders above the Merc in my opinion. I kick myself in the ass every time I go fishing for not getting another G2.

I think THOEFT is asking Roosterman why he likes the G2 better than the new Mercury...

Smoother, more powerful. Longer warranty. Controls are way better. Way better hole shot, way better mid range.
