Revo 3 STX Engages mid cast, chewing up pinions....HELP!

This reel will occasionally engage mid cast, causing a terrible gear grinding noise. Eventually this has worn down the pinion gear where it contacts the spool and made the reel feel like crap.
The thumbar seems to depress normally, I opened her up and see no damange, degreased some of the factory grease. Main gear is pristine.
Any idea what would be causing this. I love the reel and want to put a new pinion in it, but need to figure out while it is engaging mid cast first.

    Thank you!

Is this the only reel that does this to you? Maybe the clutch springs are weak? Maybe you are casting too hard? Many variables could be causing this result.

Yes this is the only reel that I have issues with. I own lots of baitcasters of all brands, this is the only one with theses issues.

Its either you are hitting the thumb bar when casting, or there is some internal issue that is allowing the clutch to engage.

Replace all the springs while swapping out the pinion gear.
