Console Plate Screw Holes...Some are Stripped...How Would You Fix?

My driver console plate (holds the graph) has a couple of screw holes stripped out. I'm thinking of using slightly larger screws. How would you fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

You could always glass a small piece of wood directly behind the screw hole...won’t hurt a thing

Fill the holes with a slow cure epoxy and redrill for a permanent repair.

Thanks to all. I'll epoxy. I'd thought about bolts but decided screws would make for easy on easy off next time around.

Use nuts and bolts if you can access from below. That's the strongest. I have that on my Z521.

This is not a Band-aide repair.

10-32 UNF aluminum Rivnuts with a stainless washer backer. Now you have easy on/off fasteners you never need to mess with again. Just snug the bolts with a nylon washer under the head and it will also reduce the dissimilar metal corrosion from the aluminum plate. I did all of my cover plates like this.

Go to Home Depot and pick up some Speed Nuts. It’s a concave small piece of metal with a screw hole that goes on the backside of your console. As you screw the mounting plate in place, place the Speed Nut on the back side of the stripped screw holes and as you screw your mounting plate down, the Speed Nut will grab the fiberglass and tighten up. Should you ever need to remove the mounting plate, the Speed Nuts will come off easily and can be used over and over. Will only cost a couple of dollars depending on how many you use. It’s worked for me for years.

X2 here. We don't use screws where you can use bolts. Screws will rip out when the waves get big.

This is the way to go. Basically it's a rivet that's a threaded nut.

    mikesxpress,

Can you elaborate, please? I'm unfamiliar with this product you mentioned, but I'm intrigued. Exactly how is this product used?

    Thanks,
    Keith

    blkfalc4,

Is the rivnut applied to the panel only? I don't see how the panel is held in place. Must the holes in the fiberglass be enlarged? Thanks.

Rivnut is installed into the base material and the panel is attached with the fasteners.

Now I see...you install them in the fiberglass, then place the panel and then install machine screws. Thanks.
