Why is everyone so obsessed with speed honestly is 2 or 3 mph faster or slower really going to make that much of a difference i have a 19 xs with a 225 i can hit 72 but i don't even run it that hard i see no reason in it just my opinion

It's a male thing. Mine's faster, bigger, all that stuff.
IMO it’s the same reason folks buy more/bigger graphs, high dollar rods/reels, a million different baits/colors, change rims on tow vehicle....just part of the whole deal. None of this stuff “really” matters unless it matters to you.

Never caught a bass when running 70+, or with the big motor running.
So why did you buy a 225 HP?
See a few post where people ask the same thing. Well if i want to run 80 and want to run 60. My advice is to stay out of the way. Lol

Never understood why someone cares about what other people do or want to do?
Bottom line,, power them how you want them. Personally, I like lots of horsepower... if I get my rig running the best possible, that means it’s efficient. Just because a boat can run 80, doesn’t mean that’s where it will spend the majority of its time. That same boat will have sufficient power for those heavy loaded days, when the weather’s bad and that extra horsepower to use on big water, or just cruising without stressing the engine.
Believe me, when you are on the water and that major storm suddenly blows in on you, you can see the rain / tornado / and big water headed your way, would you rather have a 50 mph rig or one that will rip 70-80?

I want a boat that has the capability to run 75+ so I can cruise at 50 to 60 comfortably. My old boat topped out at 50 so a "fast" cruise was 40.
And from what I've seen knock off 10% of what most people say they run anyway. And the inches the wife says they have isn't true either. lol

If you fish tournaments during the week, and have only three hours to fish, then speed IS everything if you can get to the honey hole FIRST. 2MPH makes a HUGE difference!
How many times has a turnament been won in the last two or three cast? the faster the boat the more cast you get to make.
Never caught them on plane in any boat. So going 70 means you get get there sooner, fish more and drive less.
That said, I don't run 70 all that much. But I do admit it is fun. ;) I have not at this point done anything to optimize for top speed but when I do it will be more about optimizing for the best performance overall, not just because I want to go faster. The set up for best top speed generally tends to be more efficient at lower speeds makes for an easier cruise with a little better fuel consumption rate.

It's America...if it's legal then it's nobody's business what I want or what I do! (some folks will differ on this)
Don't need a reason to have an AR-15 ..... I just want one.
Don't need a reason to have a fast car in the garage....I just want one.
Don't need a reason to have a fast bass boat....I just want one. (mine only goes 50 but I don't give a sh*t)
Don't need a reason to have a gas guzzling SUV....I just want one.
Don't need a reason to have a ______________....I just want one.
I can say after spending 11 years with this boat in the slow lane i cannot wait to upgrade to significantly better performance. Going fast is fun and like said its not like you have to run high speeds all the time its just nice to know that it can if you want to.

Buck24 the first time you fish a tournament and get passed on the way to your spot by another boat that ends up fishing your spot you'll understand.
It is hard to blow the cobwebs out at 25 MPH but they fly out at 70 MPH and beyond.
