All of my compartment lids are always propped open when the boat is parked to make sure things dry. I use foam insulation scraps. Doubly important for the battery compartment since Hydrogen gas is dangerous stuff in the right conditions

It is a must if you have wet lead acid batteries. The charger lid needs to be open also(if its in the same one as the batteries that is not an issue) Bob

Depends......Lids open parked at home simply to air out any fumes from fuel accumulating in bilge, but lids always shut and locked w/ boat alarm set whenever setting unattended at a motel/cabin.

Are we not concerned with hydrogen fumes. If you have worries of your batteries being stolen a fan and ducting should be used with closed lids or don't charge. AGM and Lithium needs little venting so venting not really necessary. Bob

I raise mine and normally a rod locker lid just to make sure there are no gasoline fume buildup.

I raise mine. In order to hook up my charger I have to raise the lid, and it helps remind me to take the extension cord out. I once dragged a 200 amp charger to death when I forgot to unhook it from the boat in the dark.

Yes, tennis balls work great. But, when away at motel/cabins, same a Lou, all locked except battery compartment when charging.

    No.

Not flooded lead acids so do not vent gasses. Boat batteries while parked in a remote motel parking lot have been among the items reported as stolen. Bolt cutters free a battery in seconds.
