Sorry to hear and we all need to pay more attention! Skin color doesn't really matter either. I have a black friend who is a firefighter. He has had some removed. I will admit,I don't pay enough attention. Got to do better!

I'm getting my first skin check up in October. Very nervous, as I grew up outside, and never ever used sunscreen. I'm more concious about it now, but still stubborn and rarely use it at my age of 49. I sometimes get mild sunburns, and eventually very tan in summer months. I'm sure I will have quite a few spots that will be thoroughly analyzed by the dermatologist.I think many of us need these healthy reminders that the sun kills...period.

I had a melanoma detected last year during a routine dermatologist exam. Biopsy taken and verdict: Melanoma. Surgeon cut it out and told me that if it had not been detected I would have been dead in less than a year.
Now I cover up completely when outdoors.
I feel like it was Providential that my cancer was detected early.

Had a family member diagnosed with it from a small spot on his head... His wife is a nurse and had him get it checked immediately upon discovery.... Perfectly healthy to buried within a year with some of the best treatment in the country.
I have had a few areas on my head froze or cut off. Aug 22 two more places will be cut out.
Wife has had four Melanoma removed. She has stitches in her back now where non cancerous places removed.
