    Commander 4000 shifter neutral switch...

What does this switch do? My 2004 Triton TR21x was converted from Merc power to a 08 Yamaha HPDI...and still using the Merc 4000 shifter. I have intermittent stalling when shifting. Done all the switches on the motor, can't be the motor IMO. Was gonna change the neutral switch in the shifter but the darn thing looks like the gas tank may need to be removed to get it out?!

I also cannot find or figure out how that neutral switch would be connected to the engine? What wire color at the boat harness leading to the motor?

all it does is keep mtr from being started in gear, it allows the ign switch to supply 12 v to solenoid when in N and start is activated at key, yellow with red stripe, some racers bypass this switch so they can start in gear
