This is progress guys…3 years ago every lithium thread ended with “your boat is gonna burn down your house”.

Been running lithium cranker for 3 years…no issues whatsoever and have never read about, or heard of any issues with them as crankers.

Since all the lithium battery suppliers have different BMS. I don’t see how Mercury could say that lithium batteries are ok to use with their engines unless Mercury designs in circuitry to handle any BMS failure mode.

What stood out for me in the video is the price of the starting battery in John Crews boat, $2999.00. What possible reason could a non-pro angler have to spend that kind of money?

Same reason a non professional driver buys a ZO6 Corvette…they want one.

That is a poor analogy. We get it you have lithium batteries. You don't have to take it so personal that mercury says no, and you want to justify.

Lots of guys are trying to run 5 graphs plus add on modules and a single AGM won’t cut it. They can shoehorn in a fifth battery for a 400 lb battery setup or they can pony up and replace all that with 2 batteries at 80 lbs total. It’s probably worth it just to avoid hernia surgery.

Because they want to! Why spend a larger amount of money on five 12-15” fishfinders? It is the same answer and “need” has nothing to do with it.

I will be due for Boat batteries this year
600-800 for lead acid that last 4-5 years.
2000 for lithium with charger and 10-12 year warranty.

    Ionic 100ah
Tracker Marine deep cycle won’t work either

Those are the only 2 that I’ve seen shut any motor down. Quite a few of us Merc guys run 125ah Ionic with zero issues. I’ll take my warranty chances for a longer lasting battery any day. I also void warranty on anything I own. So nothing new here

That bulletin doesn’t preclude the use of lithium. It says their charging system wasn’t designed for it but it doesn’t say you can’t. In fact it allows that you can, but you may have to install other equipment as required by the battery manufacturer. So, a lithium manufacturer, like Relion, doesn’t require any additional equipment and it works fine with Evinrudes charging system. Reading comprehension is critical.

3 grand for a cranking battery! What make their brand better than Impulse or Ionic Lithium crankers that sell for around a grand? That’s nuts!

No smartass response to Steve Kennedy? I wonder if the guys at Basscat put his in or he did it on his own

Just like the video of John Crews with them. I don't understand?

Would it make you mad if I told you Iaconelli has lithiums and an AGM in his?

The argument has nothing to do with guys doing it. End of the day Mercury gets to make the call not an elite angler.

Rick himself has also made comments on lithium I would have to find it. I think he is in favor of them acctually.
