Champion for me. Do a search for Champion 188 and you should see an old thread on Champion vs Procraft. Don’t know if it will help.

That era Procraft were pretty rough riding boat. The Champ ride is famous. I am 90% sure the Champ has an EFI motor while the Procraft has a a carb’d motor. Unless the seats and whole boat are trashed, for me it would be 1000% the Champion.

Champion hands down. That 200 Yamaha ox66 is a great motor, one of the best outboards of all time.

Champion has a better reputation than Pro Craft when it comes to fit, finish and ride quality. I have nothing bad to say about Pro Craft but honestly Champion is the best choice of the two. The one thing that would swing me would be if the Champion was rode hard and put up wet and the Pro Craft was a garage queen. If treatment was equal and then it’s still Champion.

OP, you tell us. Why would you have thoughts about the ProCraft being a better purchase? What did you see that you liked better?

Both boats are priced right but champion should be Best Buy.

Champion will be a better boat. But personally the Mercury is a better motor. Check the transom on the Champion. Known failure on those older ones

Champion all day. I had a Procraft 180 dual pro back in the day and it was rated for a 175 so I think that one may be under powered as well.

No doubt, ChampioN....I've owned the 181DCXelite and 193DCXelite. the 188 is in the middle. It teters a little while fishing, but most importantly, you're getting what you want to go faster and ride better in bigger water. Those boats have that DeepV hull design and will arguably be the best riding 18'8" boat that's ever been produced.
