    One more gift from Virginia

A tax bill for my truck and boat trailer just came in. I moved out of the state in June wish it was December as they dove into my wallet one more time.

For any of you not currently living in a personal property tax state, count your blessings. They just suck!

Now that I am out of one and had tax experience's in one I consider them personal property tax hell holes.

Only other wart I need to kill is Illinois! Still own a home there and they really have a love for taxes. Will be selling that home as soon as possible.

Personal Property taxes haven't been state wide in VA for a few years. Several counties/cities do still assess it and I am in one too, $964.00 this year for a 2013 Tacoma.

I just left the couthouse in Talladega,Alabama. 4 cars and 3 boats were $310 for tax and tag. We get the over 65 exemption on our house. It runs about $500 per year on a 450k house.

All states will get you in one way or another when it comes to taxes, fees, or licenses.

I received a personal property tax bill for my boat trailer here in Virginia and when I went o the tax to pay I ask if it would go down each year like it does on my cars and the lady says, "oh, it is a boat trailer and not a regular. or recreational trailer, you don't pay personal property tax." I live in Prince William county, so it may be a county thing. I don't pay any on the boat either.

thats a good one LOL. Here in northern va, we get to pay for more restricted lanes, with more to come & then pay a toll fee you use them. The bad part is, it's costing the local commuter a lot of $ to get to & from work.

This is very true but some really soak you badly. Or has no Sales tax, but they kill you on Property taxes, but 66$ for any truck or car license. Wa state no State Income tax but they kill you when you go buy a Jug! Like about 56$ for a half gallon of JD after taxes at Costco. Creates a lot of discount Liquor stores on the highways in Nor Cal Nevada is probably one of the best to retire to as far as costs go, but the fishing sucks No state income Tax, you can eat pretty cheap in the Casinos, drive 75 or 80 on the freeways and they advertise Whorehouses on billboards. Oh you can also own a fully auto weapon, pretty good state except for the fishing

I fuel up every time I'm in Virginia. I'll trade you anytime for the taxes I pay in the North State.
