2.7 Eco Boost engine - towing

My company recently switched from RAM to F-150s and I'm assuming I'm getting the 2.7 Eco Boost based on fuel mileage numbers, but yet to be confirmed. I found a tiny bit in the searches, but anyone towing with the 2.7? I have a Phoenix 920 Elite, for what it is worth...standard 20 ft./4000 lb.-ish set up obviously...

They might be a good commuter. But get terrible mpg towing

More concerned with power vs. MPG, honestly. I know the specs but looking for real world...

I tow an 819 and it does fine, maybe better than fine. I was skeptical when I bought, and impressed with real world experience.

    I had a 2012 3.5 eco and now have 2018 2.7 eco in F-150 4x4's.

The 3.5 eco is a beast, and the 2.7 twin turbo pulls a bass boat without hesitation or strain.

Check and compare the torque curves on these blocks in contrast to a V-8. The twin turbos make max torque at very low rpm and hold a very flat and useable torque curve.

Totally different seat of the pants experience, more diesel feel than high revving gas engine.

I remember my test drives and the 3.5 put me in the back of the seat.

I have a 2018. Tows my 20 foot Gator Trax with a 250 (4000+lbs) no issue. I'm not sure my MPG is terrible towing but I get 16 MPG towing on flat ground, 13 in the hills. 22 mpg not towing.

If still in warranty, any little issue with the trans, get it to the dealer. Maybe get an aftermarket warranty extension. My 18 is in the shop for a new trans right now.

My 2022 F150 2.7 tows my 18 foot Ranger with no problem. It actually towed better than the 2009 with 4.6 V8 did. Fuel milage same in both towing 14- 15.

I came out of a 2010 Ram 1500 with a HEMI into a new 2019 Ford 2.7 and had my doubts. I actually much prefer the 2.7 towing. It's a little beast and I haven't had any tranny issues at all I hear about. Been on multiple 1500mi round trips up and over the mountains of Appalachia with my 21ft Caymas and never once did I wish I was towing with something else or felt under powered. You don't have to rev it to the moon the get the power. It's a nice little setup IMO.

a company 5.0? Very nice. that'll tow. I'm in love with my 3.5 its too fast and I get 13mpg with the boat 18mpg highway without the boat. On stretches where there is a slow lane for climbing mountains I get in the far left lane and pass cars with the boat. I had a 2.7 on rental and didn't hate it. I towed my 16.5 ft aluminum around with it it was easy. Cant go wrong with any of the F150 motors in my opinion. They can all move a bass boat

I have got 8-9 mpg on mine once towing to MN. But that was into like a 20-30 mph head wind. Pulling in the hills of KY I get around 13, but normal highway I can get 16 no issue.

My 2015 3.5eb tows great. The worst mileage I saw towing was around 9mpg with 20+mph head and cross winds and I really think that is the worst this truck can do. Normally towing 2 lane highway I see around 16 and 4 lane highway around 14.

100% depends on what your towing and how your driving it. The 2.7 is comparable to the 5.0 towing. But the 2.7 will get better mileage empty. The 3.5 would be my first pick for engines in a 1/2 ton. I am on my 3rd 5.0 in work trucks and they are decent but again the 3.5 would be the 1st choice. Cj
