Question Bass boat specs and total storage space required for various bass boats

I’m looking to purchase a used 17-18.5 foot bass boat with 150-200hp motor or max recommended horse power motor for the particular hull. I do not want anything with a motor under 150hp. I have 21’2” length of storage space and 8’9” wide garage door opening. I am not new to boat ownership and refuse to store a glass boat outside. I’d really like to find something that will at the least hit 60mph. I have found a few that will fit, but there are so many different models and I’m not real trust worthy of google factory storage specs. I came here thinking some of u guys could tell me your rig specs and required storage space to steer me in the right direction for my bass boat search. I’m sure most of yall have much larger rigs, I’m looking for the guys with smaller rigs or experience with previously owned rigs. Please let me know if I posted this in the wrong section or if there’s a better place to post it. Thank you, gentlemen in advance for any help/info provided.

My Champ trailer/boat/Merc (& 5.5-inch jack plate) tilted up a little bit are about 24-feet long. Luckily I have 40-foot long indoor storage.
    Champ beam is 86-inch (7'2")
Champ trailer/tires is about 94-inch (7'10") wide. Original owner ordered 3-inch narrower 1800SV trailer to fit into his garage better (still have order sheet)

BassCat Sabre (but you'd have to find a leftover or used) and Margay/Bobcat will fit with a swing tongue (I had an '04 Sabre and my garage at the time was under 21') According to the BCB website the Bobcat (19'11") actually has a total package length greater than the Sabre (19'8"). Both can be had with a 150...Sabre with a 175. Don't think a P2 will fit, mine just fit in my garage which is 22' and change.

Boats rated for 150 - Ranger the Z185 is 20'10", Nitro Z18's are 21'3", Charger 176 is 21'1" (but doesn't say if that's with a swing tongue) just to name a few.

My last boat was a ranger z118 with a 150. It was a great boat, had great storage and fit in my small garage. You can get the z518 that's rated for a 200. The 150 got me to 58-60 mph the 200 will get you 65-68 mph. The only thing I would have changed is not having a passenger console. I'm now running a bass cat cougar with removable console and it opens up the boat so much more. I'd looked at the ranger for the 18ft class boats.

I don't think my z518 would fit in that narrow of a door

My 178 with the 6" jackplate is just over 22' total length. That's without the swing tongue opened. I would think you could go to a 188 and open the swing tongue and have the room. Before I put the talon on and added an extra 31 series battery, I was at 62mph. Now I am at 58 by myself. Has a 90"beam. The wide body makes the boat feel roomy.

Thank you all for your numbers. The basscat Sabre I wasn’t aware it would fit. Im pretty sure the ranger 178& 188 without a jack plate, skeeter tzx 190 with swing away tongue will squeak by and fit. The boat will definitely have to be on a single axle swingaway trailer. If yall come up with anymore boat model suggestions let me know. I’m not necessarily a brand snob, I’ll consider any brand boat that has been well takin care of with solid transom and stringer.

Thank you sir, I guess a 188vx with a jackplate + 175 is out of the question. I honestly don’t know if a 175hp is any longer than a 150hp. I’m not sure about how many different trailer widths there are. I kind of assumed single axles were standard, I just learned something. I have 8’9” opening and would like to stay around 8’ ish wide. I can deal with only having 3” clearance on each side of trailer. In conclusion I’ll prob be limited to a 17’8” ish boat with a 150hp. I was eyeballing a stratos vindicator but it sold fast. The current market is insanely inflated. IMO

Trailer width on glass boats won't vary much. Typically 100" +/- 2"

Phoenix 818 is roughly 100 trailer width and 22 ft long with motor turned, both with +/- 1 inch for measurement error. The 175fourstroke cowling is larger then my 2015 150hp 2stroke by an estimated 3 to 4 inches.
The new boats with setback plates are just longer then stated and all wider. My 818 in my single bay garage takes up more room then a 1995 19'6 Ranger fish and ski with 200 merc. The 10 inch setback plate makes the lenght the same and new boat is much wider, especially up front.

so it stands to reason that a new 17ft boat is of similar size as to what we used to call an 18ft boat.

    Measure twice and buy once.
Take a tape measure and friend to help measure boat/trailer/engine your interested in.

I used a 100' Stanley tape for measuring my Champ.

nothing like doing the measurements yourself and ensure you have a bit more clearance. My backing of a trailer is not mm accurate

My Skeeter SF-175 (18') takes up about 22.5' (no swing away tongue, outboard tilted down but not turned) in a 25' garage with 2 garage doors really has about 24-24.5' to work with. Generally, I have about 1.5-2' to work with depending on how I have the outboard tilted and turned.
