Has Anyone Solved the Magdraft Hook-Up Problem?

Fishing the 6" version alot for smallmouth. They love the thing, though the hook-up ratio is poor. I plan to experiment with hook size and placement, though wonder if someone out there has already solved the problem?? Shortening the learning curve always appreciated!

I just started throwing it this spring and I was having a hard time hooking up but started waiting after feeling the bite. Setting the hook immediately did not work for me.

Add this to the top of the bait tie off the hook eye, insert into the back of the Magdraft, most of your fish will be caught on that stinger Owner Stinger Harness Rig 3pk | Tackle Warehouse

Maybe just a smallmouth thing? Never had a problem with largemouth getting hooked up.

This is a thing in the musky world too - push to go away from bottom facing hooks in favor of top hooks. Less tongue-hooked fish, less gill-hooked fish, faster hook removal, lower mortality rates, etc.

Get the freestyles and rig it as a top hook line thru. Several videos on the tube about it.
You can slide the treble back further and like said above you won't get tongue hooks.

I have a lot more success waiting a sec before setting the hook too.
