    2005 Champion 206 Elite with New 250 4 Stroke

About to hang a new 250 4Stoke on my 2005 Champ 206. Had a 250 XS Racing motor in the past and ran a 4 blade trophy. Anyone running this set up or have any ideas. Not after speed. Just see a lot of 24-25-23 pitch props on these new motors. Thanks for any help.

From what I've read, Mercury 4 stroke likes less pitch than the comparable 2 stroke and the SHO can run the same prop.

Yep you will need to drop down in pitch. I would see if you can borrow a 24P 4 blade or a 25P 3 blade to start.

I had tried a 25 4 blade Trophy and got little over 5700 RPM, not sure the speed cause GPS was not working. Hole shot was decent but the handling was crazy good. Speed may have been 60+. Got a 3 blade Fury copy in 23 pitch and still the exact same RPM, speed GPS was 63 handling was not good in turns, hold shot was great, but RPM way down. Ideas????

Picked up a 4 blade 24 pitch, Ran at 5425 RPM+- at 69-67 handling was good boat is out of the water like it never has been. Going to try a 4 blade 23 pitch to see if the RPM comes up some. All the 3 blades are poor handling like it was with the 250 XS Racing motor that came with the boat. That new four stoke pushes this thing so far out of the water its like a new boat, unreal. Very happy.

I run an 05 206 with a 250 ProXS four stroke. I run two different props. Fury 23P three blade, and a 25P Bravo 1 four blade. Fury is slightly faster, but the Bravo 1 provides better overall lift and handling. I did add a hydraulic jack plate when I did the motor install. It was a huge improvement over the slidemaster. I also added a wedge. bow lift has been an issue with my hull ( and most 206s) since I have owned it. At least when fully tournament loaded The wedge really helps with that. I now typically only lose 2-3mph fully loaded/ 2 people/ and full fuel. I was losing about 8mph. Your RPMs would be low with the 24P if you are running a ProXS. I look for 6100 rpms. Redline is 6200. With the Fury, I have hit 74mph, and was not topped out yet. that was last spring when I had the motor installed. My boat takes some driving above 71-72. Really have not tried to push it any further. In my opinion, 70 is fast enough given the age of the hull. Dont really feel the need to push it that hard.

I went with the 5 degree wedge. That being said, I can go full trim with the 3 blade, but I cannot with the 4 blade. If I were to do it again, i will just get the 2 degree. I run a Bob's action series hydraulic jackplate, so I just ordered the wedge from them. Be prepared to pay as much for new bolts as you do for the wedges. I was surprised by the cost of the bolts. I had an old set of trim extenders that I tried before installing the wedges. I thought those were 5 degree. They are actually 2. Suggest trying those first if you are on the fence. Quick and easy to try, but certainly not a long term solution. My hole shot did suffer little bit with the wedge. Suffer is probably the wrong way to describe it. It stands up more, but still extremely quick to get on plain. The new 4 strokes have so much more torque than the older 2 strokes. I know most 206s are not the best out of the hole. I know my 4 stroke fixed that issue.

When they installed the motor they didnt even start it, Not Happy) so i had to take it to another deal put it on the computer and set the throttle, it was only at 94%. Before the set that the 24 4 blade was pushing 70 at 5725 RPM, only 1/4 tank of fuel. Now with a 1/2 tank it runs 63 at 5250 RPM. Bobs 10" jackplate. We gonna try at 4 blade 21 and see what that does. I agree as old of a hull it is dont want to break it. Mine is a 5005 206 as well. It does not like the 3 blade for turning as it does the 4 blade. Hard boat to set with this new beast on the back, I am happy with it, feels like a new boat.
