    Over sized skeg - good/bad?

I have a new Riptide Ulterra 80 mounted to a 21 ft deep V that I use in the Columbia River, lakes and the Pacific ocean from time to time. The river guys locally have started using over sized skegs. Ive seen them on guide boats mostly but also on smaller boats like mine. They claim they increase steering authority and efficiency.

Im wondering if any of you guys have any experience with this sort of thing or any advice plus or minus?

Why am I hanging out here when I could be fishing.....

If you need it, use it. T/M skegs don't steer the boat as built.

I'd end up knocking that off about half way through the day.

I don't think that would work good in the slop.
