We had the same problem, Our fix was to put mount a section of diamond plate in there and mount the hotfoot to it, We have not had any more issues with it since, Keep it polished up and it shines.

I use the sprayer too but not the oil, I have used PB Blaster from the auto parts. That does work very good.
