Had the same message and it was the harness rubbing like Don said.

8M0101601(Best choice) fits tight in the prop and is hard to remove.
840389K06 doesn't fit as tight in the prop. Both will fit the 1.25" shaft on the 250 Pro XS 4 stroke.

My 2004 201 Pro XL does the same if I leave the compartments closed. I just leave the compartments open when it is in the garage.

Thanks for the diagram. Got my boat back from the shop and ran it yesterday. Everything working as it should.

Took to dealer and he said EMM is shorted out. He couldn't find any other problems that would cause the EMM failure. Will replace battery nuts with lock nuts when I get the boat back from the shop.

I have regular nuts on the battery. I checked and they are tight. The smoke came from the bottom of the EMM. It immediately shoots the fuse now when the switch is turned on.

Took my boat out today. Motor started and ran for about 5 seconds. Tried to restart but shot fuse in motor. Replaced the fuse and tried to restart but noticed smoke coming from the bottom of the EMM....

Thanks for the help. Picking up 3 large vent plugs from the dealer today. I am going to try it this weekend with all three installed first. Will report the results.

Removed all the plugs and the RPMs went to 6000 and the prop could not hook up. Tried to put one plug back in but was not able to at the ramp. Will try it with one plug and report back. Thanks
