So I thought I'd figured out why I wasn't getting spark to my port side cylinders but now I'm being told that what I found wouldn't cause that issue. Coil on stator with brown wires coming out is...
Like it's brand new out the box. Not even a black mark on the ground electrode
Back with another problem. Not getting any spark to my #2 cylinder. Have replaced plugs, wires, power pack and optical sensor. Readings on both ignition coil were dead on manual specs so didn't...
Second attempt at this. Re did all the link and sync directions first, then on to the timing and this is where I ended up. Was close to dark when I was finishing so didn't have time to run to the...

This is where they are after my first try with it
Yes, disconnected the cable from the engine and it's still tough to move. Followed his instructions to a T. Thought I had it set and sent him a pic of where the tabs ended up and he said they're...
I purchased a johnnyrude timer to get the timing straight on my 98 fast strike. Going through the instructions and on the throttle plate synchronization #3 says to push the spark lever roller...
Thanks. Hopefully it doesn't take long to get the timer in to fix it. The idle is high when the motor is running but if I move the low side down even one click it cuts out if I give it any amount of...
After more searching online I've ordered the Johnnyrude easy timer and hopefully can figure it out.
I have a 98 Fast Strike j115glecm and a manual for it but nowhere in the manual does it state what these are or how to set them. From what I've gathered on Google they have something to do with the...
Yes, they're set level when the gaskets are off.
Thanks, will reset all the float drops. Would that cause the problem I am having though? Too much fuel and gravity is just taking it to the bottom most cylinder?
It is definitely getting too much fuel instead of not enough. We removed the dead man's cord and turned it over with the #4 plug out and it shot mixed fuel out of the plug hole
He didn't let it shut off. Held it closed for about 30 seconds and there was no change in the motor
He had a timing light connected to each wire while I run it on the lake at wot. Said 2 and 4 were breaking down somewhat between 3 and 4500k as well. Put new power pack on it back at shop but haven't...
Thanks for the responses so far. Last night he pinched the hose that goes to the pulse limiter closed with a pair of needle nosed pliers and held it a while but it didn't have any effect on the...
And yes, that's me. Goes to show what trying to shade tree your stuff will do for you. What has me worried is he says everything seems to be doing what it's supposed to do, just that 1 cylinder. Said...
Yes brand new Champion spark plugs. I Thought my problem was no gas but after the mechanic rode in it last night and did his diagnostic tests it turns out that cylinder is getting too much fuel and...
I thought I had the problem corrected on my 98 Johnson fast strike 115, model #j115glecm, but apparently not. My #4 cylinder is washing out with too much fuel for the plug to spark between 3000rpm...
Ok guys, here is where i stand now. Ended up replacing reeds on 2 and 4, replaced all 4 carb bowls, they were warped and cracked some kinda bad. Went through and cleaned entire fuel system on engine,...
Thank you for the info. Sorry it took so long for a reply, been very busy at work. Hope to get to work with it this afternoon. Will post update
Thanks, but do you know where the other jets are located in the carb? Would like to make sure i have those cleaned good as well. Basically all i did was blow air through all the passages on the carb...
Also, the only jet i can see is the high speed jet in the bottom of the bowl. Where are the others located? I have the service manual for that engine, well the manual is a 97 and my engine is 98,...
No, bought the boat in August of last year and its been on the water at least twice a week since then. Started having trouble the beginning of last week with, talked to a few guys and they all said...
It stays with same cylinder. Getting a new set of reeds tomorrow. I feel like I'm chasing my tail on this one. Been messing with this problem since last Tuesday and can not get it figured out
