NMEA 2000 is not too expensive. 2-drop starter kit is $86 on Amazon. Not sure how many things you want to hang on it but extending the network is easy. Just insert another T-dropper.

I am confused as to why he would need a GPS and a heading sensor. I use the GPS built into my unit and have the Steadycast for heading. Is the 24xd a better GPS? I feel like the built in GPS on my...

Do you want a heading sensor or a GPS puck? The Lowrance Point One is a heading sensor and a GPS, the Garmin Steadycast is just a heading sensor (but the units have GPS already built into them)....

This is an Albright knot (an Alberto is a back and forth Albright) except he is doubling the braid. I am not sure what doubling the braid accomplishes other than making the knot bulkier.

That is a bad statement. While pricey the GT50 is a pretty awesome transducer that will work with that unit. I had the GT50 and now use the GT56 (GT50 is my backup) and the 800kHz on the GT50 gave...

You have your GPS selected for heading. I forget where it is in the menu but in there somewhere you can select the point-1 as the heading sensor.

Garmin Marine network and NMEA2000 are different ports on your FFs. You can have use both ports simultaneously. You do not need to disconnect anything from your present system to add NMEA2000.

I would recommend a GT50 if you can find one. It has more power and a narrower aperture than a GT52 and produces better images. That is probably the best transducer you can get for the plus.

I have a 106sv with a gt56 on my hobie outback and I really love it. Using it with a 30AH lithium battery. Keep the ff on the front hatch with the battery inside the hatch. Works great for me.
