I believe the bottom 2 cylinders in the eagle block had slightly lower compression in certain years. Seahorse or other expert will be able to confirm
Check for water in the fuel. I have had a 250HO G2 with substantial water in fuel and the probe did not send a code to the display.
If he installed icon2 controls, the accompanying Hot Foot which can be bought (Floor or bulkhead mount) is one of the easiest installs there is.
Code 137 is a fuel supply restriction of some sort. I'd check all your fuel hoses from tank to engine for kinks. The noise you heard from fuel pump might be it trying to pull fuel to the VST but...
Any other electronics running or activated when this happens? We had an issue with RFI spiking the throttle position percentage to 135% and engine would shut off. Had to relocate two way radio...

+1 to Seahorse, had the crimped grommet issue on one of our Pro Staff 150s. Dealer fixed us up quick.
What style control do you have? It could be that something internally is at times not operating properly in the control. Especially if it is a flush mount control.
