It really sounds like a loss ground, you may want to run a wire from the ground on the control box to the ground on your starting battery just to test it.

I have the GCV20with the GT34uhd transducer it just does not do 2D, so I currently do not have 2D on the front of the boat

I am upgrading trolling motors and really wanted to go with the Garmin but my 7612xsv will not give me UHD with the built in transducer and the GCV20 box will not work with the built-in transducer....
