I didn't mean to mislead .
due to it not heating up ,I did not run it much over idle ( did not want a cold seizure)
it seemed to idle ok to me but at 82 years old my hearing isn't the best.

Awesome Forum
thank you both for the replies, will put in lake today.
engine serial # 0G407463.
port head (with temp sensor ) running cold .
starboard head heats up.
new waterpump, new poppet valve.
temp guage never moves off cold , and is cold to touch the other...
the older champs had a one-way valve in the overflow hose, worked good (no water when backing hard)
they seemed to omit that on the newer models.
maybe someone still makes those.
rotella 15-40 all three holes
yep, dumb question, three Harley's, one Big Dog, one Honda......they are all tagged as motorcycles
btw this forum is called Bass boat central bikers.
five bikes, two with liability only, two with liability and comprehensive.(500. deductible)

$ 230.00 per year with progressive. (multi policy platinum level)
exactly what I did, real handy for storing a few tools etc
Thanks for the replies, I am going to replace the cables.
seems like a wash on opinions.
pro's are cost$$$ , get a feel of the engine trim( no feedback on hydraulic), no trim gauge needed )
no...
01 187, 175 merc efI, (really a 200) runs high 60's)
has morse cables, getting a little stiff in colder weather.
cables =$400, hydraulic = $1000 ...(self install)
been on boat ten years....
Is...
don't you "lose the feel" with a no feedback system ?
is it a hardtail?
1951 Mustang, rode that thing on a morning paper route two years to pay for it
the bearings and seals don't freeze and bust only the case.
if the case made it , then maybe all you need is a "seal job"
Hope for the best
thank you, I run a 8 incher on my 01 187 with cables and did cut another hole in the "fastback transom " to make the cables have a lazy bend to
the motor.
Pat , why does the steering differ in jackplate size ?
I had a 86 XR2 for twenty years , it ran a little over 6 grand all the time , would push my 87 17.6 camp around 60 (23prop)
that 2.0 likes rpm
does it have the original EHC ? or replaced
my 96 did this , more or less.(randomly just quit)
What fixed it was the engine main connector.
I cleaned ,tightened pins (spread pin slots with razorblade).
dielectric on pins and problem gone
my 01 187 with 8 inch jackplate sits almost level with me on the front deck , thanks to the two small inner tubes I placed in he jackplate void
I have had a ACU on my stock 96 2.5 200 since 2006, plug and play zero problems .
I did have to hook up the choke/enrichener to the key for cold weather starts
took mine off after two years, the springs rusted/broke.
back to ratchet straps, not that big of deal
When I check in to BBC, I go to the champ forum.
