Pulled the boat out of the water (it stays moored all summer) and managed to remove the entire trim system without doing anything to the motor. Took the trim motor apart and found...

Getting power all the way to the motor. Doesn't draw any power from the battery when trying to ttim. Guess the motors shot, hopefully can find one today!

I can't even see the trim motor let alone hit it with a hammer lol.

How much is reasonable to pay to have the trim motor replaced, $100 an hour labour.

Also just noticed that the trim clicks the same wether the blue/green wires are connected or not..

Ok i hooked the booster cables up to green and blue wires, positive on one, negative on the other. Positive sparks but trim motor doesn't move.
Fuel gauge is working again after not being touched...

I'll try connecting the ground wire first maybe, too many sparks the way I tried!

Picked up a 13x19 aluminum. Boat now gets up on plain much easier, revs to about 5k rpm and gets 40mph. Not exactly what I was hoping for but getting up on plain is a huge improvement.

Thanks for the advice all. I wouldn't be surprised if it never ran 55 mph, although I didn't get the impression from him that he was trying to upsell the boat. He owned it since new in 1991.

Well I don't have much to compare it to but I think it's ok. It idles and runs pretty good, just feels like it should have more. I've not done a compression or leak down test.
