NDAs are common and often needed before you can get access to technical information.
Have not used a crankbait in 5 years.
I use a 7'0 heavy action for my general purpose jig rod. Usually use a 1/2 ounce jig with pork or plastic trailer. I like the stiffer tip for pulling the jig free from grass clumps.
I do not know about knife building but this is a standard practice for a lot of other things. In fact I would wager this would result in a knife with a tang that is less susceptible to breakage.
