That will make you think twice about doing your own maintenance.
Gee, I know nobody likes these but I hoped somebody could at least tell me the base timing and max timing.
It still has 135# compression by my Snap-On guage and fires up everytime.
Can anybody give me the timing specs? It runs ok but is a bit lumpy at idle. Serial number OE002772. It is a Merc / Force 50hp. 2 cylinder, 1 carb. We would just like to make sure it is setup...
Solid mounts are standard on the high performance 2.5 Mercs. They are not an issue.
I imagine you are talking about the rear bolt that is under the little cover that pops off. Try a thin wall socket. I think it is 1/2" if I remember right.
Possibly need a power trim button too.
The lower unit looks like an old CLE. It should already have low water pickup so you can jack it up a bit.
Download a GPS app on your phone to get the speed. Sure is quite a difference in those two props, sounds kinda odd.
If you are a real fisherman I would go with the 80. I had a 50 something and went to a 74# years ago and I would never go back.
Parts should be no problem. It is just a Merc in a different color.
The Merc style puller is the only way to safely do it. You do not want to damage the end of the crankshaft and you don't want to tweak the fly wheel.
Since it is hard to get an exact measurement, one guy may say they are 1/4" above and somebody else may measure the same boat as 1/4" below. Like usual you need to proceed with caution.
I just got a sample kit from them. It came with a bunch of little 2 3/4" squares of all the different designs. I weighed it on my wife's little kitchen scale. 44 pieces that are 2 3/4" square...
Good question. I will be watching for the answer too. Sometimes they are a bear to get open, my wife always has trouble.
Too bad, it was something to look forward too reading those conversations.
Just remember that adding a jack plate may require new steering and possible throttle and shift cables. It depends on how much slack is there now. It is a cost that is often overlooked when making...
Yup.
It seems like it is hard to improve on the investment Merc has put into their fuel curves and programming, when they are working right.
I don't think so.
What are you using on the wrinkled finish?
You would be happy with those mods and they are easy to do if you can turn a wrench.
I bought a 1988 135 brand new way back when. It was a turd. After suffereing for a couple three years I put an exhaust divider from a 200 on it and put a set of wh28 carbs on it. I think the carbs...
I would think the only extremely accurate way would be to adapt the mechanical trim gauge to the side of the jack plate.
Exactly!
