You can find a used gearcase for that motor in the 4-800 dollar range. Lots out there that will fit it. Far cheaper than a new engine unless you need an excuse to get a new one, lol.

I know Paul Nichols has a good reputation, down around Chattanooga. He'd be a good contact to start with I'd think. Never used him but heard good things.
Beat me to it!
Haha, I am not talking about the prop nut, I'm talking about the bearing carrier retainer nut that threads into those fine threads that you're talking about. The carrier does NOT thread into those...
How does it matter which carrier the nut has squeezed in there? The nut and threads see no difference.
With a stock carrier start a few inches below and watch your water pressure as you come up. A 26 trophy is a nice all around prop, promax and pro et props run great also. As mentioned, to get the...
How does the different carrier have any effect on the carrier nut? I agree a hd carrier is nice but certainly not required.
Promax or Pro ET will run well.
Hydromotives have always been hit and miss, some run great and some don't, even when built for the application and reworked by them after that. Conisistency has been an issue, that's why you'll see...
You can get them from any merc dealer or any walmart/bass pro/academy sports, or any store that has an outdoor section that sells common boat motor parts.
Do a full link n synch procedure first to verify everything is where it should be. Check your sensors by the book, easy to do. Once you know everything's setup right then you can troubleshoot.
Put an impeller in it some fresh fuel and roll. Maybe check gear oil if you know it hadn't been done recently before sitting.
Could be end of crank full of grease.
They seem to be love or hate. Haven’t seen many that run all that great myself, but some people rave about them. Why are you wanting one?
You should be fine doing that if it's not a chrome bore. I've done it before in a pinch, jammed the ports full of towels and cleaned and cleaned after. That cylinder never had a problem and looked...
Does it have a whale tale or anything like that? Does it change when you trim up? Does it lean at all speeds on plane?
Did you try adjusting the shifter cable?
Same stuff different label.
Boyesen, Chris Carson, tdr, can’t go wrong. Have had good service and performance out of all of them.
How does it run once up and going?
You’ll either need a nose cone or a sporty, those Bullets run jacked to the moon compared to most boats. It’ll drive a lot better when set up right too.
Worst case looks like bore .015 over and a new piston and go. Hard to tell how deep grooves are. I’ve seen a lot worse still running.
About sounds like an injector driver or switchbox not firing right until it gets running and makes a good electrical connection. Motors sound fine to me, I wouldn’t expect them to be very smoky out...
50:1 is not heavy on oil, they’ll idle on that all day. Think about what 50:1 is and how little oil there really is in a given amount of fuel, it’s not enough to make a difference.
Or if you hear the horn at wot. Seems pretty common by the time you realize it’s the horn going off and get her shut down it’s too late.
