How can I determine gear ratio on the lower unit I have? Is it labeled somewhere or can I count the teeth?

Unfortunately I don't have the boat here with me, however I do have the broken lower unit in the bed of my truck.


Is the shaft gear the same for all 2.5L motors regardless of gear ratio?

I measured the shaft on the broken lower unit. It measures 18-3/8" from the top of the lower unit to the top of the shaft. Would this make it a 15" or a 20" shaft?

Interesting... must mean the transom measures about 17" to 18" ... right between the two.

Wonder how the handling characteristics would differ between the 15" & the 20"?
